Jeremiah & Dad Do D.C.

Jeremiah and daddy accepted an invitation from G&G Schnitzler to join them in Washington D.C. for a long weekend in early March. Daddy also had the title of chauffeur. Daddy, grandma and papa picked up Jeremiah about 2 p.m. at school and they headed east. They drove to western Pennsylvania that night and then went to Gettysburg the next day. Daddy was the only one in the group who had been there previously. That afternoon they finished the drive in to Washington, D.C.

While G&G attended their conference Sunday, Jeremiah and Daddy toured Ford's theater, visited Arlington, and saw several of the monuments. Jeremiah experienced the DC Metro system. On Monday morning, they all started the day listening to the President's marine band. This day of sightseeing included a tour of the capital building, Smithsonian Museum of American History, Union Station, and the Jefferson Memorial.

The final day of the trip started at the Library of Congress and then they went to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. The adventure soon came to a close, as they departed D.C. around noon and arrived home shortly after midnight.

Jeremiah returned to school Wednesday. He shared his daily journal entries and some photos with his class. He was also asked to speak to a fifth grade class about his trip because they had been studying the Gettysburg address. What he learned on this trip could not have been duplicated in two missed school days. The memories of a road trip with his dad and grandparents are even more precious
