What's your favorite thing?

We’ve added an interesting feature to our dinner activities. We were having some challenges getting Jeremiah to stay focused on dinner. He was playing with his silverware or drink, which was making dinner frustrating and long for us all. However, in the past week plus, we’ve started talking about what the favorite parts of our day are, with one catch. Before we answer or before we are willing to ask him, he has to eat things. I think we’re actually all enjoying it and it’s brought fun conversation, involving our son, to dinner. Occasionally his answers are baffling – like last night when his favorite part of the day was coming home from church, although our day contained making cookies, carving a pumpkin, taking a walk, playing games, and more. To each their own opinion….

Jeremiah specifically requested a spider on his pumpkin and his daddy obliged.

Jeremiah has had some other fun activities this week. He wrapped up swimming lessons, with the opportunity to use the diving board. Daddy lowered him down in to the water to the instructor. He enjoyed going underwater enough to do this 4 times! We think he delighted just as much in getting to pick a drink out of the vending machine at the pool, as a treat for finishing swimming lessons.
On Friday night, we went to the movie theater to watch Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. He did really well, although he thought the end was a little scary. On Saturday, we joined a local Illini club at a game watch. He liked getting to spend time with Jane and Eric, even if our team didn’t fare so well.

He has expressed a recent interest in knowing what day of the week it is so we’ve been talking about this quite a bit. He now knows his days of the week and usually notes what tomorrow will be when we discuss what today is. Now, if we could get him to understand that yesterday isn’t any time in the past, but only the day before today. Right now yesterday could be something that took place 3 months ago. It’s kind of cute!

  • you look great! So proud of the little guy going "off" the diving board, what a big step!! We always tried to discuss, "tell me one thing bad and one thing good about your day" when we eat, so I got a little bit of info out of the kids and their school days!
