The half-way mark

We're officially more than half-way to the due date. Saturday marked the 20 week point.

The baby is becoming more and more active, tossing and turning at least once daily. A few nights, he/she has been active just as we're heading for bed. Either she/he is a big fan of Days of Our Lives, MASH or a myriad of other late night TV we watch or might be a night person like John.

While we were in St. Louis this weekend, John thinks he felt it swish across my stomach. I have no idea what it feels like from the outside so I don't know. However, there is plenty of movement going on that I can feel on the inside.

THANK YOU to those who have already sent gifts for the baby our way. They are all very thoughtful. This baby has no idea how spoiled he/she could be.

The first picture

19 weeks, 3 days and counting. Here is a profile shot of his or her face. You can see the big old nose (we're blaming that on John) and the big forehead (probably from Marla). However, I'm sure all this is apt to change when we actually get to see him or her in person in November.

The ultrasound went well and things seem as they should be. He or she kept moving around for the sonogram tech but she got all the shots she needed eventually.

The fifth month begins

Saturday marked the beginning of the fifth month of pregnancy and my body is starting to make this a bit more obvious. People at work, who haven't yet heard the news, are starting to ask other workers and then congratulate us after they have confirmed that I'm not just packing on the pounds.

I succumbed to a Dairy Queen craving on Thursday night and also brought some home for John. However, we also followed this with two bike rides over the weekend. We strive for balance. HA!

Because people seem to be asking more often now, I'm going to address finding out what gender the baby is. We want the surprise, at least this first time. Our ultrasound is scheduled for next Tuesday so hopefully we get a good glimpse of him or her then, without finding out what it is.

We've started looking at color schemes for the baby's room. We don't plan on major change but we could add a bit of excitement to an otherwise plain white room. If anyone finds a great farm animal-themed example, let us know. We are leaning towards a deep red/somewhat terra cotta color (hard to describe) but we're open. However, our bathroom is mint green and the kitchen is yellow so we don't really want to match either of these.
